Smith College brings NASA Funded MaRS Program to Springfield Prep

Smith College brought their NASA funded Math Resilient Students (MaRS) program to Springfield Prep this summer! This program helped students learn mindfulness and other ways to help build their confidence in math. The MaRS program was developed and led by Smith College professors with the help of a grant from NASA aimed to support students in reducing math anxiety.

For one week, 15 Springfield Prep scholars participated in hands-on STEM activities to help make math and science more accessible AND fun! This program was facilitated by by Smith College students in the math and education fields. A key element of this program is the mentorship opportunities and points of connection provided by Smith students.

This program helped our scholars build math resiliency and self-efficacy while participating in engaging math problems, mind-bending puzzles, team-building exercises, interactive games, and mindfulness activities. STEM is a vital component of a holistic education for our students. Learn more about our classrooms and our supportive teaching model at the link below.
